I used the dreary, cold day on Saturday as an awesome excuse to stay in bed until noon (not kidding). I've been reading Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter (sorry but that CANNOT be her real name) and I couldn't put it down! I picked it back up after our friends left our dinner party and ended up staying up until 2 AM to finish it.
Anyway - in between cleaning up the house + pulling together our favorite Nacho Soup in the crockpot (recipe to come - it's a friend's reco and comes from a real life cookbook, not the internets! gasp!), we headed out for a bit to downtown Hartford to see our friends Billy + Eddie. They recently got back from Italy where they got engaged (!!) so we couldn't wait to see them! We met them for a beer at Hog River Brewing, a new brewery in the Parkville section of Hartford.
I was pleasantly surprised! To be honest it's not the BEST neighborhood so don't plan on walking to any other destinations if you head there, but it's a great little spot! My tips if you go:
- The only food available is if there is a food truck in attendance. You ARE allowed to bring your own - next time we will bring a picnic!
- Stick with beer. I'm not a huge beer drinker so I got a cider and it was pretty terrible. Everyone that tried the beer said it was great!
- There's a live band that sets up in the afternoon most weekends. Stake out a spot at one of the long wooden tables to avoid getting blasted by the speakers :)
