My friend Sarah recently sold her uber-successful vintage wedding and events rental business down in Charleston and decided to pursue her other passion, styling her adorable daughter Violet, full time as a stylist for cult children's clothing service Mac & Mia. If you haven't heard of them, they send a box of highly curated children's apparel at your request - you keep what you love and send back what you don't!
Sarah's daughter is by far the most well-coiffed little lady I know (no surprise considering her mama's past success as the buyer for Kiawah Island's luxury boutiques - which is actually how I ended up at vineyard vines, as her rep at VV passed along my resume!) and as soon as we found out we were expecting I made a mental note to request a box.
In short, you pay a flat $20 styling fee (waived if you keep two or more items), communicate with your stylist regarding exactly what you're looking for (or not - a quick style quiz will give her an idea of what you're looking for if you'd like to be surprised!) and they curate a box of 6-10 pieces especially for you. They carry really fantastic children's brands like Riley & Cru, Buho (new fave of mine) and Primary, a newer line that carries all solid-colored basics priced under $25. Shipping is free both ways and you get 15% off if you keep the whole box. They carry sizes newborn - 6T and prices average around $35 for apparel and $12 for accessories.
What I love about it is that you are working directly with a real human and you are requesting your box yourself, so you can utilize them for something specific you are looking for or for a special event. Sarah beat me to the punch in ordering and sent us a box as a gift and included a bunch of really great special pieces for TB, varying in size from 0-3 to 3-6 months. She also sent descriptions of each peice and why she selected it (I.e. "Hi Meg I knew I better include stripes...π). As TB gets older she will include specific looks, etc in her recommendation
Honestly I could've kept the entire box, but we selected the pieces we loved the most that also felt the most versatile. Similar to how we dress ourselves, we don't want to overbuy for her - we're trying to curate a mini wardrobe for her with lots of good quality, more classic pieces that will work for longer (Sarah sent a few dresses that she knew would also work as cute shirts as she grows, for example). We're staying mindful of what we've bought already, and are also intentionally selecting pieces that will rotate in with some of the beautiful hand-me-downs our friend Cara packed up for us now that her daughter is older.
Here are some of the pieces we kept!
I can't recommend the service enough - but like any of these box companies, the stylist is everything. I highly recommend Sarah as she has impeccable taste and I know she will take care of you. If you use this link and input code SARAHM into the code field you will get a $20 merchandise credit for your first box (full disclosure, so will I if you love it as much as I do and make a purchase)!
I also LOVE this idea as a baby gift - you can give Sarah a price point and what you'd like her to include in a handwritten note and Sarah will curate a one-of-kind gift box for you (just like she did for us)!
I plan to request another box when TB's arrival gets closer to fill in any gaps in her wardrobe. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this little highlight of a brand that's new-to-me that I love!
