Hi, I’M MEG.

I live in West Hartford, CT with my husband Chris and our baby girl Nell. We love classic American style and bickering about whose turn it is to unload the dishwasher. Glad you stopped by!

Nursery Tour

All photography by Amy Patrice Photography

I am so excited to finally share Nell's completed nursery. This is by far my favorite room in our house and is also the first room that we have fully finished from top to bottom! I am notorious for doing rooms piece by piece as I find things... I can't comfortably just fill a room with "stuff" because it all just feels too "new." I like to layer in a mix of old and new to add as much character as possible. You'll see that a mix of the pieces in the nursery came from around our house and/or were things we already owned that had meaning to us!

Our goal for this room was to create a serene, calm space that could grow with Nell. I don't personally care for super "baby" rooms or themed nurseries so instead I focused on the "feel" of the room. I found a vintage Turkish rug (from this Etsy shop - the owner Maryna is such a pleasure to work with and the rug got here from Turkey in just a few days!) that became my inspiration for the space and we built the room from there.

We were definitely on budget with this room and tried to be smart with what we invested in. We were lucky that we loved the paint color the previous owners had selected (Benjamin Moore's "Green Tint") so C just washed all the walls and trim down and touched up the paint with extra we found in the basement. The name of the color is so funny to me as it's like a chameleon... C said it was grey, I said it was blue, and then we found the paint can and it said it was green haha. I did a little research and apparently designers love this color because it does pick up different tones in different light!

After talking through our priorities we decided to prioritize the glider and the crib as investment items. We selected this glider from West Elm as we felt confident we would use it for multiple children and/or in other rooms in our home. We selected the Ecoweave fabric in "Oyster" as it is easy to clean and a great neutral. We landed with the Marlow Crib from PB Kids  as it had really clean lines and we didn't think that it would go out of style if we wanted to use it for additional children. We were lucky to get the crib as a gift and we are very happy with it. I opted for no crib skirt as I don't like wrinkles, dust, or ill-fitting decor and I've heard crib skirts are all of the above haha.

The one part of the nursery that I am probably most proud of are the window treatments! I had a very specific vision for them but after pulling all the pieces together from Pottery Barn, etc., they were almost $1,000 per window. HA. Not happening. I found these cordless bamboo blinds from Kohls of all places and I've been really happy with them! The price changes all the time so I waited until I had a good discount code and I paid around $22/each. I then picked up a few pairs of Rivka Curtains from IKEA (these are the BEST - they are $24.99 a PAIR and you can use curtain rings with them. They look so expensive!). They do only come in 98" or 118" long so I sent them to my grandma and she hemmed them for me :-D She also used the extra fabric to sew a table runner AND a diaper holder AND a wipes holder because, well, that's Grandma Flo for you haha. Best Grandma ever. Make sure you get these curtain hooks if you plan to use them with rings - they are only $2.99. I then used these rings in black and paired them with these blackout rods for that custom wrapped look and a little extra light blocking. A lot of people said we would want blackout blinds but we decided against it as she won't have pitch black at daycare for naps and we want her to be able to sleep in a variety of environments. We did the windows for less than $100 per window and I'm so proud of all of our little hacks!

The rest of the items are mostly from Homegoods, Target, and IKEA. I took the bookcase from the downstairs bathroom and it tucked perfectly behind the door. Almost all of the artwork is pieces that we had - we also printed photos from a few of our favorite places in Maine, etc. along with wedding photos and a few snaps from our maternity session just to give her a few reminders of her loving family. We will replace some of these with photos of us all together as she gets older! And of course, we had to include a photo of Miles :) Chris' grandparents also brought over the wooden rocking horse that C had as a kid and we were so touched! It's such a perfect sentimental touch in the room and we can't wait to see Nell play with it!
