C's Fall Picks For Men
This time of year always makes me giddy for a billion reasons. The start of football, bonfires, sweatshirts, pumpkin everything, major TV networks starting to advertise their new lineups, the much needed decrease in humidity and did I already mention football?
We all have our fascinations with fall but one of the main reasons for giddiness in which can all agree on is while the leaves changing color means they are technically dying, the fashion side of the world is just starting to blossom. From now until the holidays, you can expect each brand to showcase the best of their best. Out with the same 2 pairs of shorts, bathing suit and t-shirts you’ve worn since June, and time to throw on a pair of jeans, a broken-in hoodie and layer with a Henley to get this thing rolling!
Each season Meg asks me to provide some insight on trends I’m seeing or just menswear/dadswear fashion tips in general. Whether you’re a guy reading this, or maybe just a really cool wife/girlfriend/fiancé shopping for the man in your life, I hope you use this as a simple guide for statement pieces you can style to life as we approach the most wonderful quarter of the year.
Bonobos
These pants are super comfortable with almost 20 different colors to choose from. They’re also available with 5 different fits so no excuses. Every guy should own a few pairs.
My favorite suit in my closet. Just got back from a wedding a few weekends ago and received a ton of compliments. I went with Rodrigo Solid Ice Blue. You can tone up or down, depending on your style but this is easily one of the best suits I’ve ever owned.
Rhoback
Rhoback just gets better and better each season. Getting its name from the Rhodesian Ridgeback, a dog bred in Africa to hunt lions. The Ridgeback craves activity and has an unmistakable ridge that runs down it’s back. Wearing the ridge on all their shirts inspires me to prepare for the next adventure. Whether it’s having a catch during a tailgate, hitting the links then rounding it off for happy hour with friends, Rhoback has your back! Use code HALL15 for 15% off.
It’s officially Q-Zip season people. Fall golf is one of my favorite activities that exists on planet earth, and so far this year I’ve worn my Q-Zip each time I tee off, especially on those cooler mornings. I recommend sizing up, as normally I’m a size L, however I highly recommend layering under the Rhoback Q-Zip’s with their variety of performance polos. Such as...
I love this cool, comfortable polo in heathered grey and white thin stripes. The thing I love most about ALL of Rhoback’s gear? The flexibility in being able to wear this shirt golfing but also to run errands and then seamlessly transitioning into a nice dinner date with Meg.
These performance tees are great. Moisture wicking and light. GREAT for workouts or long morning walks.
Todd Snyder
(In collab with Champion)
This sweatshirt is one of the softest I’ve ever owned. Definitely has that broken-in feel right out of the box and only gets more soft and cozy over time. I love the details, like the left chest pocket and the champion logo on the sleeve. Comes in 15 different colors. I have dark driftwood and will soon be getting my favorite color, original navy. I’d recommend sizing up since it’s 100% cotton.
SAULT New England
One of my absolute favorite places to shop and follow on Instagram @saultnewengland They have stores in Boston and New Hampshire, but if you’re not local enough to those places, they have great customer service and will take care of what you need. Here are a couple of early fall must-haves from this classic men’s lifestyle brand.
Made with USA fabric + organic material, so what could be better? Super soft and while I mostly would wear with only a t-shirt underneath, this can easily be paired with an oxford button down when we transition over to winter.
Hot off the press! These just arrived and are on the floor. Warmly knit and long lasting. Whether or not you’re from New England, these are GREAT easy-to-wear basics that you’ll have forever.
Classic crew neck. I recommend sizing up as it runs a little slim.
Canvas jacket that buttons up the front and warm. I love the details with the subtle front patch pocket on the chest and slant front pockets.
J. Crew
American Pima Cotton Oxford Shirt (In plaid)
I love the Kansas Green Black, as it can be worn alone or layered with a Henley. The photo online appears brighter than in real life, as it’s at least a few shades darker. Great for that fall/holiday transition period.
Rugged Cable-Knit Shawl Collar (pictured)
Every guy should own a few shawl-collar cardigan sweaters. I have heather sandstone and love the way it looks with a white tee and jeans. Best part is the variety these sweaters offer in that they’re great for after work couch potato time but can also be dressed up for casual Fridays at the office.
A bomber jacket brings any outfit to life. This bomber comes in 3 colors (navy, rustic olive-brown, and vintage olive-green.) The jackets are lightly tapered and have a nice relaxed fit to them. I HATE jackets with overly broad shoulders, and these bombers are far from that.
Bought this a few years ago and remains one of my go-to’s.
484 or 770 Straight fit pant stretch chino
Want to look sharp but also move freely? Then grab these stretch chinos from J. Crew. I love how the colors never wash out like some other brands. Great for a more formal setting like the office or dinner with the in-laws, but easily can be cuffed with some sperrys for weekend get togethers with friends! I prefer 770 since my thighs are more athletically built. If you want super thin in the thigh, go for 484!
These jeans look great and are super on trend. I love the comfort and how they hold their shape despite multiple washes. Highly recommend!!
Clark’s Originals
You can argue wearing these all year round but they pop most in the fall. I recommend continually cleaning them and using the protective leather spray, especially if you plan on using them in harsher weather. Always order half size down as they run big! I’m normally an 11, and I wear 10.5 in these.
Penfield
You can get this particular Penfield jacket on sale through a bunch of different websites but I listed it here as simply a sample of the style or type of jacket you can rock this fall. You can layer all you want underneath but this Lenox jacket is a great shell to tie it all together.
